High Street, Rait, Perthshire, about 1903

The view shows pre-Improvement Fermtoun cottages which date from the 18th century, with reed thatching on the roofs. A burn runs through the centre of the village, effectively cutting it in half, and the cottages are situated alongside it. According to the New Statistical Account of 1843, there were 47 families living in the village.
