The Old Bridge at Bridge of Earn, about 1905

The view shows the ruined remains of the arches of the Old Bridge of Earn.

This bridge had four arches and was built in the early 1500s. Its tidal position meant that it required frequent repairs including an extra arch and a re-alignment of the north end in 1766. It was partly dismantled around 1822 when a new Bridge of Earn was opened- to prevent toll-dodgers, and then finally demolished in 1976. Bridge of Earn was a key river crossing point on the north -south route and it had a stone bridge at least as early as 1326.
