Main Street, Bridge of Earn, looking North towards Moncreiffe Hill, 1905

The view shows Main Street, Bridge of Earn with its buildings, shops and people and a prominent row of telegraph poles.

The first houses to be built in Bridge of Earn date from about 1770 but the first houses to be built in this street date from about 1832. The New Statistical Account of Scotland says that they were much admired for the symmetrical regularity of their architecture. The village was enlarged to accommodate visitors keen to take the spa waters from Pitkeathly Wells.
