Buchanty, Perthshire

The view shows a remote 19th century farmhouse and associated buildings at Buchanty, Perthshire.

Buchanty lies at the foot of the sma' Glen, and it was at Buchanty that Thomas Graham, Marquis of Montrose erected his standard prior to the Battle of Tippermuir in 1644. The population of the area has decreased massively after the census of 1831 due to the breakdown of handloom weaving, the disappearance of the croft, increased mechanisation on farms, smaller family units, and the movement of people to bigger settlements.
