Main Street, Guildtown, Perthshire

View along the main street in the village of Guildtown, Perthshire. Houses line the road and there is a man drawing a horse and carriage emerging form the street on the left. The village takes its name from the Guildry Incorporation of Perth. (The Guildry administers the revenues of farms and feus in Guildtown and elsewhere). Guildtown was founded in 1818 and lies on the Perth-Blairgowrie road about 6 miles from Perth. By 1904 the village had street lighting and there were carpenters and smiths workshops but the main industry was agriculture.
