The Cross and Town Hall, Auchterarder

View of the Cross, High Street, Auchterarder with Aytoun Hall on the right between the pavement and road which allowed people to walk over the gutter.

Known as the Lang Toon, Auchterarder stretches along the road between Stirling and Perth. High Street is the back bone of the town with buildings which date from the 18th century onwards. Aytoun Hall with its balcony clock tower was built in 1872. The building to the right of Aytoun Hall is called the Girnal House (meaning Granary) and was built about 1835 to hold unsold goods from one market day until the next.
