Red Kite

In 1457 an Act of James II listed kites as vermin which should be destroyed. By the 1860s the increase in Victorian gamekeeping, which did not tolerate birds of prey, meant that red kites were becoming rare and they became extinct as a nesting species in Scotland around 1880. this specimen was shot in Blair Atholl in 1843
