Duck/Hen's Egg

This egg was laid almost 800 years ago in a midden or rubbish heap in the backlands of a property on the High Street of medieval Perth. It was laid by either a duck or a hen. It was found during the 1975-78 excavations on the High Street, Perth. Excavations in the same site have also discovered the bones of both ducks and fowls. They indicate that both types of bird were certainly being eaten. This egg also confirms that they were being kept for their eggs
